Is It Better Not to Know?
It's inevitable in life that we are not going to be liked by everyone. It's just not possible, and that's okay. There are, however, individuals in all of our lives with whom we would like to find favor. But, what if we don't? What if these individuals don't like us for reasons that are beyond our control? If circumstances require that we have some type of relationship with these individuals and if we aren't going to be able to change their opinion of us anyway, is it really useful to know that they don't like us? Or, is it preferable to be kept in the dark about it and to go through life thinking that they like us? The older I get the more I think that I would prefer not to know. After all, if we aren't going to be able to change their opinions of us, knowing that they don't like us just makes us miserable when we are around them and/or think about them.
